"Kate may have defeated her boyfriend's nemesis, showing off her sword skills in the process, but Vincent is sure that she will be at risk as long as they stay together. What's more, it's becoming clear that their relationship might prevent him from fulfilling his true purpose: saving the lives of others.

They might have the romance of the century, but will that be enough?"

I only recently read the first of these books 'Die For Me'  Its safe to say that I have STRONG feelings for these books already and I am anxiously anticpating the next part.  The title says a lot for me too - I fear some heartbreak!!!!

Review - Legend By Marie Lu

"The United States is gone, along with its flooded coasts. North America's two warring nations, the western Republic and the eastern Colonies, have reached a breaking point. In the midst of this broken continent and dark new world are two teenagers who will go down in history....

Born into the slums of Los Angeles, fifteen-year old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. A mysterious boy with no recorded image or fingerprints. A boy who should no longer exist. A boy who watches over his family until one evening, when the plague patrols mark his family's door with an X--the sign of plague infection. A death sentence for any family too poor to afford the antidote. Desperate, Day has no choice; he must steal it.

Born to an elite family in Los Angeles' wealthy Ruby sector, fifteen-year old June is the Republic's most promising prodigy. A superintelligent girl destined for great things in the country's highest military circles. Obedient, passionate, and committed to her country--until the day her brother Metias is murdered while on patrol during a break-in at the plague hospital.

Only one person could be responsible.

Day.

And now it's June's mission to hunt him down.

The truth they'll uncover will become legend.
"

I first heard of this last July when the book was starting its release promotion in the USA.  I researched it, as I do all books that interest me and knew this was my kind of thing.  When I was asked if I'd like to review I had to contain my extreme excitedness.  I hope I acted cool.......

The UK cover is somewhat reminiscent of the original Divergent cover for me.  That doesn't make it any less stunning though.  Its almost like the girl standing there has the world at her feet - like she is powerful.  I also like the setting sun, its kind of provocative to me in that things are going to go down!!

You start the story reading from the view of Day - a boy on the wrong side of the law.  He lives to cause havoc for the Republics wealthy and to look after his family.  You find his family has been marked as plague victims and so starts his mission to save them.  I was rather shocked to read of how the poor are treated in this world.  It left me with a  feeling of fear for them, but also for us.  Marie uses the facts of today, like growing population and lack of resources and builds a new warped version of the world.  I do find when I read dystopian tales like this I wonder - What if???

The next chapter shifts to another character JUNE - it also switches to a new font, that was so helpful - you can just look at the writing and know who's side of the story is being told!
June's life is greatly different to Day's, she is rich and privileged.  Through actions in the story though she becomes the sworn enemy of Day and so her story of revenge begins.
I found it utterly fascinating to read of the diversity of the characters life.  How much like in our world today being born to some people can bring great fortune and to others bring great suffering.  Its actually great thinking material for the life we live now.  Sometimes the grass is not greener on the other side, but just sometimes I think it is.

For me the story although interesting dragged a little in the first half, but the second half was so much more exciting.  It was in this half that revelations started pouring out and you could see where the story was going.  At this point I was utterly enthralled.

The book concludes on a somewhat shocking note, but is a great set up for the next part.  I'm just not sure where the story is going and that is so attractive to me - I want shocks and think I may just get some!!

This is a brilliant debut that not only had me questioning the world in the book, but the world be live in today.

Top Ten Books I'd Give A Theme Song To (and please tell us the song and why you'd pick it for the book!)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog feature hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish

This is such a fantastic idea for a post.  I often listen to music while I'm reading, but must admit that I rarely relate songs to books.  There are two songs that completely go to a book for me, so not quite a top ten I'm afraid......

Both Songs are by the same artist and both completely relate to the same book

Almost Lover By A Fine Frenzy - New Moon
This song is made for the love story of Bella and Edward.  It could also easily relate to Jacob and Bella
Youtube link

Near To You By A Fine Frenzy - New Moon
This is totally Bella's relationship with Jacob

Both songs take me back to reading that book and my heart aching!!

I would be fascinated to know what music YOU relate to books!!

The Storyteller Blog Tour - Micha Character Statement

Fairly recently I was given a copy of the storyteller to read and review.  Being honest I hadn't heard of it, so had no idea what to expect.  What I got was an incredible story that had me thinking for days after.  You can find my review HERE.  Today I am thrilled to be hosting a stop on the blog tour.

Micha

Abel is my brother. He is a lot more older than me. He is blonde. His eyes are blue. Sometimes I think they are water and sometimes ice. He never looks at me when his eyes are ice, but looks at other people.
Like when Rainer came.
Rainer was like: she´s mine, she´s my dagter dughter child, she must come with me, and Abel was like: no way, and they started this huge big fite fight about me and I was so so afred afraid. I did not want to go with Rainer.
Abel invents things, real nice things, like stories. He told me a fairy tail. It was about the little queen, that is me, and she has to sail over the sea and get to the mainland and there is all those people following me. The people want to kill the little queen. They want her hard heart. The hart is a diaomond, that´s why. But I have the sea lion in the fairy tail. He is tame, and Im sure his fur is all soft and nice, and he is like Abel and he is only there to safe me from the bad people.
Abel can make pencakes pancayks pancakes, real good ones, and he can throw them up and turn them in the air.
Anna is not good with pancakes.
Anna is Abels girlfriend. I know because I saw them kissing. Like in the movies, on the lips. She had no lipstick. When I am 18 I want lipstick on my lips so when a guy comes and kisses me he will also have lipstick on his lips in red or purple and that will be so so funny.
I wish I could tell Abel about how funny it will be.
Just where he is right now is very far away, and I have to wait until I can talk to him which is something I do not like, not at all.

Thank you so much to Antonia for this fabulous insight and to the guys at Abrams And Chronicle

Title AND Cover Reveal: Philippa Gregory YA Debut

In December I went along to an event with the lovely guys at Simon And Schuster to discuss the new books of 2012.  During a conversation with one of the lovely publicists it was mentioned to me that Philippa Gregory who is famous for her adult historical novels was working on some new work but for the young adult market.  I was instantly very excited by this and have been trying to find out more since.  Yesterday the news I have been waiting for, finally arrived!!!

The series will be called 'ORDER OF DARKNESS'  It will consist of FOUR books, The first being called

CHANGELING

This is due to be released on 24th May 2012 in glorious Hardback

"In Changeling, the year is 1453 and all signs point to it being the end of the world. Accused of heresy and expelled from his monastery, handsome seventeen-year-old, Luca Vero, is recruited by a mysterious stranger to record the end of times across Europe. Commanded by sealed orders, Luca is sent to map the fears of Christendom, and travel to the very frontier of good and evil. Seventeen year-old Isolde, a Lady Abbess, is trapped in a nunnery to prevent her claiming her rich
inheritance. As the nuns in her care are driven mad by strange visions, walking in their sleep
and showing bleeding wounds, Luca is sent to investigate and driven to accuse Isolde.
Outside in the yard he can see a pyre being made ready to burn the guilty…"

Soooo what do you think??  I'm definitely loving the sound of this.  I love that this makes history just a little more accessible and interesting to a younger market, plus will hopefully still appeal to Philippa's original fanbase.
The cover is simply gorgeous too - could not have pictured anything better!!!

Books That Make Me Go Oooooh (36) Losing Lila By Sarah Alderson

Waiting On Wednesday is a brilliant book blog feature hosted by Breaking The Spine

 Losing Lila By Sarah Alderson
Published In The UK By Simon And Schuster
Due For Release August 2012

"Alex and Lila are on the run, desperately trying to stay one step ahead of the Unit, which somehow is managing to track their every move. Whilst Alex is determined to keep Lila safe and her ability secret at any cost, Lila’s only thought is of finding a way back to California so that she can rescue her brother and mother from the military base where they’re being held.

Struggling to control both her growing power and her deepening feelings for Alex, Lila decides the time has finally come to stop running and start fighting. Together with Alex, Demos, and the people she’s come to think of as family, Lila plans not just to save her brother and mother, but to completely destroy the Unit and everything it stands for.

But the plan requires Lila to return alone to California, make friends with the enemy, and to risk losing everything - Alex, her family, and even her life."

Being really honest it took me a little while to get into Hunting Lila, but once I did I couldn't put the book down.  It enthralled me so much and also made me slightly jealous of Lila for having the dreamy Alex.  I can't wait to get back to the series.  No cover has been released yet, but as soon as it is I shall post right here!!!

Review - Hollow Pike By James Dawson

"Something wicked this way comes... She thought she'd be safe in the country, but you can't escape your own nightmares, and Lis London dreams repeatedly that someone is trying to kill her. Lis thinks she's being paranoid - after all who would want to murder her? She doesn't believe in the local legends of witchcraft. She doesn't believe that anything bad will really happen to her. You never do, do you? Not until you're alone in the woods, after dark - and a twig snaps... Hollow Pike - where witchcraft never sleeps." Taken from Goodreads.com

I've been excited for this book for ages now.  The contemporary setting in Yorkshire was an enticing thought, together with witches - I'm already sold.

What an incredible cover to start with.  The colouring is haunting.  The side view of the girl is great.  Giving you just a slight feature of her face but not too much.  I particularly love her dark wild hair that merges into other things like roots, trees and birds.  Great work there alone!!

The book starts with a dedication that absolutely won my heart - Its for anyone that hated school - THAT IS ME!!!  School and I never matched, nothing ever seemed to go right and that little touch was just wonderful.  I didn't realise at this time how much I would relate to the main Lis, it was like reading my history.  More on that later.

This is set in Yorkshire.  Anyone that has visited there or read any of the Brontes stories, you know how grey and eerie it can be there.  This couldn't be a more perfect setting, even for mirroring the moods of the characters and events that take place.

Early into the story Lis starts at a new school.  This for her means finding her clique - the group she is going to hang out with and then potentially the group she will alienate.  I could relate to this so much.  I have been in Lis's shoes and know exactly how it feels to try and find the people you fit with.  Also the longing to be with the 'cool' gang, but actually knowing you probably don't fit with them.  I have been there and done that and also suffered the bullying as a result.
I knew I still had a lot of hang ups from my past but reading this really highlighted how much I am still affected by my past and that longing for acceptance.  Its definitely made me want to tackle this part of myself, so huge thanks to James for his very affordable therapy!!!

So the first hundred or so pages were rather biographical for me, then the book takes a more sinister turn.  Thankfully I couldn't relate to any of this - I think if I could I would be even more messed up that I already am.
There are so many scary / creepy goings on, that makes you question what is really going on, who should we be trusting, why would this be happening?

Essentially though this story for me was about finding acceptance of yourself and being where you belong.  Then hopefully the fun times and epic adventures will follow.

There were so many epic times for the characters of this book and not so fun, but equally as thrilling.  I never imagined it would be a book about witchcraft that I would connect with so closely, but I am so grateful I did!!!  An AMAZING debut, I can't wait to see what James comes up with next!!

Cover Reveal: Unrest By Michelle Harrison

I found out Michelle was writing a book aimed at the young adult age range middle of last year and I was interested instantly.
Next came the book synopsis - AMAZING.  I need this book in my life, but we were still missing a cover.  The guys at Simon Pulse have been telling us a cover is coming for quite sometime.  The wait has been pretty unbearable, but finally we have our cover.........What do you think???

I'm really impressed with this I must say.  Its very simple, yet so effective.  I love how the shape of the boy is made up of smoke from the title.  Quite a dream like scene, which is utterly fitting with the theme of the book.

Due For Release 26th April 2012

Synopsis: "Seventeen-year-old Elliott hasn’t slept properly for months. Not since the accident that nearly killed him. Sometimes he half-wakes, paralysed, while shadowy figures move around him. Other times he is the one moving around, while his body lies asleep on the bed. His doctors say sleep paralysis and out of body experiences are harmless - but to Elliott they’re terrifying.

Convinced that his brush with death has attracted the spirit world, Elliott secures a job at a reputedly haunted museum, determined to discover the truth. There, he meets the enigmatic Ophelia. But, as she and Elliott grow closer, Elliott draws new attention from the dead. One night, during an out of body experience, Elliott returns to bed to find his body gone. Something is occupying it, something dead that wants to live again . . . and it wants Ophelia, too . . ."

Top Ten Books That Broke Your Heart A Little

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog feature hosted by the awesome people at The Broke and the Bookish

I really like the sound of this one.  I think if a book manages to make my heart ache at any time then it must be pretty awesome.  These are the top ones that have cracked my icy heart!!

1. New Moon By Stephenie Meyer
Officially the first book to ever make me cry.  When reading these books I somehow went in to the mindset of Bella and when that scene happens with Edward it felt like it was happening to me - I was devastated

2. The Time Travellers Wife By Audrey Niffenegger
This has a real heartbreaking end to it

3. The Knife Of Never Letting Go By Patrick Ness
I only read this recently and literally bawled my eyes!!

4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban By J.K.Rowling
This is my absolute favourite of the Potter books, but that end is still pretty sad.  He gets so close to a happy ending and it goes a tad wrong!!

5. The Host By Stephenie Meyer
I know another SM book, I guess she just knows how to make me sad.  I really hope more comes of this series soon

6. Everneath By Brodi Ashton
Another one I read very recently, but that end!!!

7. Numbers By Rachel Ward
Such a sad story.  Didn't exactly make me feel uplifted

8. Shadow Kiss By Richelle Mead
Big time heart break with this book

9. City Of Bones By Cassandra Clare
The end of this had me sad, confused and a little sick!!

10. A Certain Slant Of Light By Laura Whitcomb
Absolutely beautiful story, that had me well up a few time!!!

Review - Under The Never Sky By Veronica Rossi

"WORLDS KEPT THEM APART. DESTINY BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER. Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim. Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive. If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers"  taken from Amazon

I want to start with talking about the UK cover.  I am quite torn on the cover I must admit.  Part of me adores it and then part of me just doesn't quite get it.  I don't really get their floating in mid air, in front of a planet.  But I do love their embrace.  I like that parts of each of them look almost unreal.  As parts of Aria's life are lived in a non-reality this was a great element to add.  I love all the little touches too like Perry's tattoos.  I'm quite intrigued to see what they will do with the next cover.

I first heard about this book early November last year through Atom's upcoming catalogue.  Instantly I was drawn to this book.  I needed to read this.  When I attended the Atom bloggers party, we all did a somewhat fangirly gasp with excitement when this was mentioned.  Sadly we didn't get this book then and had to wait just a while longer for its greatness.  But it was worth the wait!!!

Upon starting the book I felt there was a lot of information to take in.  Not only were you learning about the characters (of which there were quite a few), but also this new world which is very different to ours today.  I was a little confused, but once I engaged my brain following became easier.

You start with life in the Reverie with Aria and then move to life with Perry on the outside.  Their lives are vastly different.  Reading from both of the characters perspectives was incredible.  It brought a lot of diversity to the story and made seeing things from both of their views that much more understandable.

Aria and Perry are both amazing characters.  They both are ballsy and have a lot to say.  This makes the banter between the characters fun and engaging.

Mid way through I did find the book slowed somewhat and I wasn't quite sure where the story was going.  But at this point some new characters were added, that re-captured my imagination instantly.  I wanted to get more acquainted with these characters and see how their input changed the story and interactions.

There is an epic journey part to the story from here, that had me thinking of Fellowship of The Ring.  I think it was the bringing together of different people and the road trip (well woods trip) that they go on.

My attention did wain a little again, but I was pulled back very quickly this time with a very strong conclusion to the story.  And by conclusion I mean end to this part of the story, as this is another trilogy and so we have more to hear from these great new characters.

Fictional Husbands

PhotobucketI have been good friends with fellow bloggers Laura (SisterSpooky Bookfangirl) Andrew (The Pewter Wolf) And Krystal (Bookshelf Banter) for quite some time now.  We share a love of books and particularly the wonderful men that are in them.  We often discuss our book loves on twitter and basically lay claim to our 'fictional husbands' by calling dibs on them as quickly as we can.  These games could go on for quiet some time and we even had to work out a time share scheme for a few of the guys as there was no way any of us could drop the lovely guys!!

My first fictional husband, although I didn't realise he was at the time was I'm afraid to say Edward Cullen (I know judge me now!!!)  I hadn't read a whole lot of YA fiction before reading those books and they somehow seemed to bring out my inner teenage girl who found the idea of someone loving to watch me sleep a wonderful thing.  I now see that, that is incredibly creepy and plain wrong.
After Edward though I was addicted and couldn't wait to start a new book to see which wonderful specimen of man would lie between the sheets.

Dimitri and Adrian from the Vampire Academy books were my next crushes.  Followed by some lusting after Jace from City Of Books.  Jem & Will from Clockwork series are my historical loves.  Valek from The Study books get a very honourable mention!!!  Patch from Hush Hush has been the object of my affections, Lots of love for Sam And Cole from Wolves of Mercy falls series But I can announce I have a new love!!  Yes this guy has been my fictional husband for nearly a year now & I've pretty much stayed faithful to him the entire time (there was just a brief thing with Alex from Hunting Lila, that could not be avoided - sorry) and his name  is FOUR from Divergent.  He technically has a 'proper' name but I won't mention that as its not quite as wonderfully unique as Four and I wouldn't like to ruin the reveal for anyone that hasn't read the book yet.  For me Four was the epitome of the perfect guy.  He has a hint of danger, yet is totally loyal and trust worthy.  He is beautiful and kind and just the kind of guy you need around, well all of the time.
From now I will happily reply to being called 'Mrs Four' And declare Four my Official Fictional Husband!!!
